Rake is a scaled commission fee taken by a cardroom for operating a poker game (usually 5% at online cardrooms).  It is that small amount that the poker sites drag out of nearly every cash pot.  You may have noticed it before - a couple of chips from the pot slide up next to the dealer's seat, as depicted in the graphic to the right. The poker sites supply us with animations that simulate the action of live dealers collecting the house's rake.  Rake is what allows the various poker sites to offer poker on the internet and to be  profitable. 

Rake is also the pig at your poker table.  While those few chips out of every pot may seem harmless, over time they can add up to a significant amount of cash.  Cash that is coming out of YOUR pockets because you pay it every time you see a flop.  It doesn't matter where you play online, you're going to pay rake to the house for the privilege of being at their tables. 

Here at RakeRacers.com, we believe in putting that poker pig on a diet.  The poker sites are certainly entitled to making a few bucks for providing the opportunity to play online poker, but 5%!?!  Every pot!?!  That's just too much.
